Face to Face Appointments

Attending for your face-to-face appointment

Carparking – please note that the practice does not own the carpark at Thame Health Centre and parking charges apply if you stay more than one hour. Read more about getting to your appointment.

On arrival – remember to check-in for your appointment. You dan do this on the automatic check-in screen or on your mobile phone or at the reception desk. If you do not check-in the clinician will not know that you have arrived.

If you are late – you may not be seen. Please allow plenty of time when travelling to the Practice, and if driving for parking your car. It can also create issues if you arrive too early – ideally, we ask patients to arrive just a few minutes before their appointment time.

If you do not feel well – please wear a mask or face covering when visiting the practice. This ensures that you don’t infect other patients or the member of staff with whom you have an appointment. It also helps to protect you from infections that you may encounter from other patients who are waiting with you. This is particularly important if you have a temperature, cough or sore throat.

If you have diarrhoea or vomiting – please do not come into the practice. Wait in your car or outside and the clinician will call you on your mobile phone when they are ready to see you. Please ensure that you wear a mask whilst in the practice.

Please remember to bring medications, paperwork and samples with you to your appointment if you are asked to. In particular, for:

  • Respiratory reviews – please bring your inhalers and peak flow reading if you have been asked to.
  • Diabetic reviews – please bring a urine sample if you have been asked to. Always bring one for your annual review!
  • Hypertension reviews – please bring some home blood pressure readings if you have been asked to. Advice on home blood pressure monitors is available [insert link here]. If you do not have a home blood pressure monitor, please take your blood pressure in the waiting area before you see the clinician.
  • Vaccinations – please ensure that you wear a short sleeve top or loose-fitting clothing so that the clinician can give your injection quickly and efficiently. If it is cold and you are wearing more than one layer, please take your jumper or coat off before your appointment.
  • Child immunisations – please ensure that you bring your child’s red book with you to the appointment so that their immunisation record can be updated.
  • If this is your first visit to the Practice – or you are having a new patient check, please bring a list of medication you are currently taking.
  • If you are attending for a medication or long-term condition review – such as Asthma, Diabetes or Hypertension please do not ask the clinician to address another problem. If you need to discuss something else, please make a separate appointment with our reception team.

Zero tolerance – Please be respectful to other patients and staff when attending the Practice. Disruptive or abusive behaviour will not be tolerated.

If you are not able to make your appointment, or no longer need it – please ensure that you cancel your appointment. You can use the link in your appointment reminder to cancel up to an hour before your appointment time. Failure to attend appointments wastes limited NHS resources.

Remember to take everything with you when you leave – patients regularly drop or leave things when visiting the surgery, from credit cards to car keys. We will keep items we find for one month before disposing of them.
