Out Of Hours

Out of Hours Emergencies

When the practice is closed, there is an out of hours’ emergency medical service available at all times. This service is meant for urgent and emergency problems and should not be used to avoid the inconvenience of consulting during the day.  If you need out of hours help, you should telephone 111 which is a free-phone number nationwide. Trained staff located at the call control centre will handle your enquiry.

Remember the Out of Hours Service is for urgent problems only. Please do not contact the service for a second opinion or for anything which can wait until the next working day.

If you have a minor ailment you could visit your local pharmacy who will be able to provide you with some help or signpost you onto the next available service.

Outside of opening hours (including bank holidays) services are commissioned by Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group.

We would like to remind you that Out of Hours cover does NOT deal with the following:

  • Prescriptions for medicines that can be bought at the chemist
  • Repeat prescriptions
  • Second opinions on problems being dealt with by your usual GP
  • Problems that can wait until your surgery is open

In a genuine emergency you should call 999. Chest pains and / or shortness of breath constitute an emergency.

We’re here for you longer

Did you know that the GP Practices across South East Oxfordshire work as a collective to provide additional routine, pre-bookable appointments each week? Each Surgery provides services at different times on different days; however you can book into an available slot at ANY of the participating surgeries. With your consent, the clinician who sees you will have access to your medical record. If you feel an onward referral to a specialist or any further investigations might be required, then it may be better to arrange an appointment with your own doctor; however this is not essential. To book an appointment or find out more, call The Rycote Practice on 01844 261066 and speak to a receptionist.

PLEASE NOTE: these appointments are aimed at routine GP care and DO NOT replace the current urgent 111 service. If you require an urgent GP appointment when your surgery is closed then you will still need to call 111. This service is NOT for emergencies or walk in appointments and in these instances you will be directed to call NHS 111.
