Smear testing is offered in the practice by our nursing team, although
GPs are also able to perform them if you wish.
An appointment will automatically be sent to you by the practice for
your routine smear although they can be done at any time if clinically
indicated.
Screening begins at the age of 25 and runs 3 yearly until the age of 50. After this
smears are 5 yearly until the age of 65.
It is an important tool in detecting early changes that can eventually
lead to cervical cancer. By detecting them early treatment can be
offered.
