What is a Repeat Prescription?
Often medications need to be taken for longer than a single course. If
this is the case your GP or nurse may create a repeat prescription for
you. This means you can get supplies of your medication without having
to see your GP. This will only be done once you are stable on a
medication and it is agreed between you and your doctor that you need to
take it for longer than a single course.
Repeat prescriptions at The Rycote Practice last for one year at most
before needing a review. Shorter times may also be agreed with your
doctor. When the agreed time period runs out you must come and see a
doctor. This is for safety reasons, to ensure that the drugs you are
taking are still appropriate for you and that any tests (such as blood
tests) that you may need are done. At the appointment, the repeat will
be extended for a further year where appropriate.
You will know when your repeat prescription needs updating as a message
will be printed on your latest repeat slip.
How do I get a Repeat Prescription?
Your prescription has two parts.
The first part, in green, is to hand in at the chemist to get your
medication.
The second part, which is white, will list any drugs you get on repeat
prescription.
If you need a repeat prescription, please tick the medications you need
on the white repeat slip. The slip can be posted in the box in the
Reception area or you can leave it with the receptionist. You should be
able to collect your prescription, along with a new repeat slip, within
48 hours. If you leave a stamped self-addressed envelope, it will be
posted back to you.
We can also arrange your chemist to pick up your prescription to avoid
you having to come into the surgery. Please ask for details in the
surgery.
To avoid mistakes, it is practice policy not to take requests over the
telephone.
We are now offering an on-line repeat prescription service.
